CinemAddicts 177: The Integrity of Joseph Chambers, Of An Age, Devil’s Peak, The First Step

Aftersun, Dinner in America, and Turtles Can Fly are also covered on the episode.

Eric Holmes, Bruce Purkey, Anderson Cowan and I have several movies to recommend this week on CinemAddicts. Episode 177 is upon us, read and/or listen below to the movies you should check out this week!

ATHENA – Production Still Image – COURTESY OF NETFLIX

Listen to Episode 177 on Spotify:

Anderson Cowan’s big recommendations for this episode include Athena, which is currently streaming on Netflix, and Hit The Road.

In theaters on Friday, Devil’s Peak is a thriller about a crime lord (Billy Bob Thornton) in the Appalachian Mountains who has a tight grip on his family. His son is played by Hopper Penn and Robin Wright (Hopper’s real life mom) plays his mother. Bruce and Eric review the feature and both gave it ⭐️⭐️½.

The Integrity of Joseph Chambers centers on Joe (Clayne Crawford), an insurance salesman who is trying to prove his manhood by going out in the wilderness and hunt a deer all by his lonesome. Jordana Brewster co-stars as Joe’s loving but understandably worried wife, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the town police chief. Joe is not an outdoorsman, his neurotic, city slicker behavior leads to life changing experience in the woods.

Clayne Crawford – The Integrity of Joseph Chamberse

Crawford reteams with The Killing of Two Lovers filmmaker Robert Machoian for The Integrity of Joseph Chambers. Riveting, insightful, and uncompromising, The Integrity of Joseph Chambers features another first rate performance from Crawford. Much of the film is almost a one-man play (out in the woods, of course), but the savage intimacy of the film absolutely worked for me, Bruce Purkey, and Eric Holmes. We all give The Integrity of Joseph Chambers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½. Check it out in theaters and VOD on February 17.

Listen to Episode 177 on Apple Podcasts:

Eric Holmes’ big recommend of the week is The First Step, a documentary on Van Jones’ attempt to pass a landmark criminal justice bill on prison reform. The feature hits New York on February 17 and will roll out to more cities throughout this month and March. A VOD release is also around the corner, and for more info, go to The First Step’s website. Holmes’ rating for The First Step: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Purkey gave it 3.5 stars.

Also reviewed on the podcast include Huesera The Bone Woman (⭐️⭐️⭐️ from Bruce and Eric) and Turtles Can Fly. Anderson Cowan recommended Turtles Can Fly, and both he and Bruce give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Eric also recommends Turtles Can Fly with a four star rating.
