Filmmaker Kimo Stamboel’s (The Queen of Black Magic) new movie Dancing Village: The Curse Begins (Badarawuhi di Desa Penari) serves as a prequel to the Indonesian feature KKN: Curse of the Dancing Village (KKN di Desa Penari). Considering the original is the highest grossing Indonesian film of all time, this installment comes with high expectations. Stamboel talked to CinemAddicts host Eric Holmes about his new feature.

Dancing Village: The Curse Begins centers on Mila (Maudy Effrosina), a young woman who travels with her two friends (Jourdy Pranata, M. Iqbal Sulaiman) to a remote village to find a precious bracelet. Although this item may cure her mother’s affliction, there may be huge repercussions for her search. A creepy series events and visits from the feared entity Badarawuhi (Aulia Sarah) leads to an overall fateful and horrific experience.
Director Kimo Stamboel talked about the intended lack of CGI and jump scares of Dancing Village: The Curse Begins. All that flash does not guarantee a first rate horror movie experience, and Kimo relied on mood, atmosphere, and tension building for his feature.
Eric Holmes absolutely loves this movie, and I will be checking it out over this weekend and sharing my review. Holmes’ review and full interview with Stamboel is below:
