CinemAddicts Episode 264 covers movies coming out on Friday, October 18th. They are Anna Kendrick’s directing debut (“Woman of the Hour”), a Cate Blanchett feature (“Rumours”), one of this year’s best movies (“Exhibiting Forgiveness”), and a horror flick (“I Will Never Leave You Alone”). Listen to our latest podcast for more info on these films!
“Exhibiting Forgiveness” centers on Tarrell (André Holland), a successful painter who lives with his singer/wife Aisha (Andra Day) and their son Jermaine. Tarrell is thrown a curve ball after an unexpected meeting from his estranged dad La’Ron (John Earl Jelks). Tarrell’s mother Joyce (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) wants the two to reconcile, but forgiveness may not be in the cards.
Directed and written by artist Titus Kaphar, “Exhibiting Forgiveness” is based on his own life, and the artwork in the feature was created by Kaphar. Running at 117 minutes, the feature contains first rate performances from the entire cast, and Kaphar brings an assured and subtle hand to his directing debut. This is one of my favorite films of 2024, and Eric and Bruce also loved the feature.
Catch “Exhibiting Forgiveness” October 18th in theaters and expect this movie to be in contention come awards time.
“Rumours” centers on seven leaders of the world’s most powerful democracies who gather at the annual G7 summit. Cate Blanchett, Roy Dupuis, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Charles Dance, Denis Ménochet, Takehiro Hira and Rolando Ravello are the actors who play the political leaders.
Their G7 goal is to provide a provision statement to the world that will provide unity and strength amidst these hard times. Unfortunately creatures arise from the forest are threatening their lives and possibly ruining their chance to draft a comprehensive statement. Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson are the writers/directors of the project. Running at 103 minutes, “Rumours” hits theaters on October 18.
I enjoyed some of the humor of “Rumours,” but it was a bit long in the tooth for me. “Rumours” is still a recommend, but unfortunately Eric and Bruce did not give the film the proverbial thumbs up!
Directed and starring Anna Kendrick, “Woman of the Hour” is based on the true story of an aspiring actress (Kendrick) who is cast on an episode of The Dating Game. One of the bachelors is Rodney Alcala (Daniel Zovatto), who would later be known as the Dating Game Killer. Zovatto delivers a memorable performance as Alcala and Autumn Best is also a standout as the runaway who encounters Alcala. It’s a great directing debut for Kendrick, and “Woman of the Hour” stands as a well done and effective crime thriller.

“I Will Never Leave You Alone” centers on Richard (Kenneth Trujillo), a mute who is on parole from prison. Part of his parole is to be released into the custody of a real estate investor who gives him a fateful deal. If Richard stays in a haunted house alone for six days, he will be paid and is a free man. If he fails, Richard goes back to jail!
Written and directed by DW Medoff, the movie hits VOD/Digital Platforms on October 18 via Dark Sky Films. Bruce Purkey was not a big fan of “I Will Never Leave You Alone,” and he doesn’t recommend the movie. I will be watching this movie, and I will report back with my own review!
