Western Classic ‘Giant’ Hits 4K Ultra HD In June

Giant, the Western classic which garnered 10 Oscar nominations, hits Ultra HD Blu-ray and Digital on June 21 via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The 1956 feature stars Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean (in his final role).

Running 201 minutes, the narrative centers on Bick Benedict (Rock Hudson), a wealthy rancher who romances Leslie Lynnton (Elizabeth Taylor), a young woman from Maryland who is getting settled in Texas. James Dean is Jett Rink, a dirt-poor cowboy who is out of place amidst the rich landowners of the area.

The epic deals with Bick and Jett’s lifelong rivalry, with Leslie often caught in the middle. George Stevens, Sr. won an Oscar for Best Director.

In 2005, Giant was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as it was deemed “culturually, historically or aesthetically significant.”

Ultra HD Blu-ray features include the previously released commentary by George Stevens Jr., screenwriter Ivan Moffat and critic Stephen Farber.
