On the latest episode of Find Your Film, I interview Prisoner’s Daughter filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke and actors Ernie Hudson and Christopher Convery. Details on the movie, now playing in theaters, as well as all the interviews, are in the podcast below!
Prisoner’s Daughter centers on Max (Brian Cox), a convict who gets a compassionate release since he has terminal cancer. Max now lives with his estranged daughter Maxine (Kate Beckinsale) and grandson Ezra (Christopher Convery). Max has cultivated a group of loyal friends in prison, but on the outside his only dependable friend is Hank (Ernie Hudson). Tyson Ritter (from The All-American Rejects) rounds out the ensemble as Ezra’s drug addicted and abusive father Tyler.
Bruce and I did a spoiler discussion on Prisoner’s Daughter. I also have Catherine Hardwicke and Christopher Convery discussing their thoughts on the end of the movie. That material is available for members of our CinemAddicts Patreon community. Support our Patreon for our monthly bonus episodes and exclusive spoilers (including Prisoner’s Daughter).
First interview up is Catherine Hardwicke who talks about crafting the visual look of Prisoner’s Daughter and the acting potential of Christopher Convery. She also mentions the music in the movie, which includes a collaboration between Tyson Ritter and E from eels. Movie wise, her film recommendation is the little known Robert Duvall directed feature Angelo, My Love. I also ask her about her past directing effort The Nativity Story.
Ernie Hudson is next, and like a narcissist I inject myself into the first question. I reflect on the first time I interviewed him (for the Congo press junket). Hudson talks about being part of Prisoner’s Daughter, his lifelong passion for fatherhood, and his recent projects Quantum Leap and The Family Business. As for movies from his resume, he cites Congo, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle and Everything’s Jake as films to watch. Check out the video version of the Hudson interview:
The episode closes with an interview with Christopher Convery. He discusses working with a talented ensemble and learning from them. Convery, who is part of the band Thrive, also talks about how being a pianist has influenced his acting. As for movies he loves, his pick is Fight Club.
