CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes absolutely enjoyed The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Currently the movie has a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score from the audience and 50% from the critics. The movie is based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and this movie was right up Holmes’ alley. Check out his review in podcast and video form below!

A doomed crew out on an ocean voyage are witness to an unspeakable horror. When the Demeter arrives on the shores of England, there is no trace of the crew. Since that is the plot synopsis of The Last Voyage of the Demeter, that is not a spoiler and we are assuming the worst for these individuals. The ensemble includes Corey Hawkins as the ship’s doctor, Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) as a stowaway, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian (Dune) as the Demeter’s first mate.

Directed by André Øvredal, the horror feature has made $11.4 million domestically. So far it’s been a box office disappointment, and Eric Holmes feels that this movie may need a few years before it gets its proper due. “I’m wondering if in 15 years, because this movie is getting panned right now,” said Holmes. “I wonder if people will rediscover it and say, ‘You know why did people hate that – that movie is rad.'”
