CinemAddicts Episode 262 features review of movies that came out on October 4, 2024. They are “Daaaaaalí!,” “Take Cover,” “Operation Blood Hunt,” “Frankie Freako,” and “V/H/S/ Beyond.” Check out our reviews and recommendations below!

Now in theaters, “Daaaaaalí!” centers on journalist Judith Rochant’s (Anaïs Demoustier) attempts to interview renowned artist Salvador Dali (Didier Flamand, Pio Marmaï, Giles Lellouche,Jonathan Cohen, Edouard Baer). Quentin Dupieux (“Smoking Causes Coughing”) wrote and directed the feature, and the picture is a “surrealist homage” to Dali. Eric Holmes (loved it!) and Bruce Purkey (disappointed!) have wildly different opinions of the feature.

Jack Paar and Scott Adkins in “Take Cover” (Brainstorm Media, Signature Entertainment)

“Take Cover” centers on Sam Lorde (Scott Adkins), a sniper who decides to retired after a mission goes wrong. Jack Parr plays his best friend and fellow military vet Ken, and Alice Eve co-stars as their manipulative boss Tamara. Holed up in a penthouse hotel, the pair must survive a vicious onslaught by Tamara’s assassins. The feature is now out in Theaters and available On Demand.

Along with some top notch action, “Take Cover” contains a surprisingly well done narrative. Biggest surprise is a standout performance from Madalina Bellariu Ion who steals the show as Mona, a massage therapist caught up in the bloody ordeal.

I praised the heck out of “Take Cover” on this week’s episode:

Quiver Distribution

Set during World War II, “Operation Blood Hunt” centers on Reverend Conte’s (Quinton Rampage Jackson) attempts to hunt down a group of werewolves. He is accompanied by several mercenaries on this mission, but the catch is Conte has not divulged the werewolves aspect of their task.

They believe their job is to find several missing Marines. Directed by Louis Mandylor, “Operation Blood Hunt” received an absolute recommendation from Eric Holmes. I gave the movie 3/5 stars and wished that Reverend Conte was actually played by a better actor (Louis Mandylor, who plays a vampire in the film, would have been perfect).

Eric disagreed with my assessment, and he is fully on board with “Operation Blood Hunt.”

Shout! Studios

Now out in theaters Frankie Freako centers on Conor (Conor Sweeney), a yuppie whose boring life takes a turn after a rock n’ roll goblin (voiced by Matthew Kennedy) runs rough shod over his existence! The feature is directed and penned by “PG: Psycho Goreman” filmmaker Steven Kostanski.

Both Bruce and Eric love the movie, and they are both fans of his body of work. If you love creature feature movies laden with over the top comedy and practical effects, this might be the movie for you!

Listen to Eric and Bruce’s review:

“V/H/S/ Beyond” – Stowaway (Shudder)

Bruce Purkey reviews “V/H/S/ Beyond,”‘ the latest installment in the popular horror franchise. Six “new bloodcurdling tapes” are featured in the seventh entry. Directors on the project are Jordan Downey, Christian Long & Justin Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal, Katie Siegel, and Jay Cheel. Purkey unfortunately was not a big fan of the movie and claims it is the weakest of the bunch. “V/H/S/ Beyond” (86% on Rotten. Tomatoes) is now streaming on Shudder.
