‘Young Plato’ Interview With Kevin McArevey and Neasa Ní Chianáin

Young Plato, a documentary centering on how headmaster Kevin McArevey employs philosophy to engage his students in critical thinking, is now playing at New York’s Angelika Film Center. The Belfast set feature, which the entire Find Your Film crew recommends, has a wider release September 30. Listen below as host Eric Holmes interviews McArevey and director Neasa Ní Chianáin.

Kevin McArevey is an instructor and principal at Holy Cross Boys School in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Along with his passion for Elvis Presley’s music, McArevey is a Stoic who uses Philosophy to create a dialgue with his students. Young Plato takes us into the lives of several students in the school as they work through their challenges and also gives us a peek into McArevery’s teaching style.

The documentary has one nine international and Irish awards, including the Irish Film & Television Academy Award for Best Feature Doc 2022. It has been screened at nearly 40 festivals worldwide. It’s an immersive and enlightening project, and Eric Holmes talked to McArevey and filmmaker Neasa Ní Chianáin about Young Plato.
